UPERFECT UMax 24 Review – A Full Desktop Monitor That Travels With You

This review is contributed by Techradar.

Portable monitors are no longer a niche peripheral as flexible setups and remote work become increasingly mainstream, and they are an indispensable item. The UPERFECT UMax 24 defies the usual trend in most other models to have small sizes of 13-18 inches. It is a 24.5-inch QHD desktop monitor that does not want to be called a desktop monitor because of its performance and extraordinary portability, 165Hz refresh rate, stand, and slim construction resembling that of a tablet. This is what it does in the field.

UPERFECT UMax 24: Unboxing & first impressions

Initial Thoughts

Sincerity be damned, I had no idea what I would be getting myself into, or how useful it would be. I thought it would be an enormous display, but not powerful enough for me to use as my primary monitor. It also wouldn't be portable to carry around. It was the perfect in-between. I got a desktop monitor-like experience in a portable device that I could easily take around my house or with me on road trips, special locations, or even to the office.

Design & Build

The dual USB-C ports and HDMI are great features, but I would prefer a Micro-HDMI port to a larger HDMI. But I'm able to look past it, as I really like the kickstand. The VESA mount is available, but we'll talk about that later. It would be extremely annoying if the screen did not have an easy way to support itself, but this one has it.

First Glance Impressions

This thing looks impressive at first glance. This feeling continued even after I had plugged in the device. When I connected it, even the people who were around me had to comment. Everything: the matte screen, 2K richness on such a large portable display -- everything. It's beautiful. It's beautiful. I do wish that it was higher-resolution, but understand the reasons why it isn't. Not everyone is interested in a portable 4K panel of this size. It would also be expensive and energy-hungry to create one. It's only the beginning.

UPERFECT UMax 24: Design & Build Quality

UPERFECT UMax 24

The UMax 24 has a solid build. The UMax 24 is well-built.

The port adapters allow you to bend the ports so that they point towards the center of the screen rather than outwards. This enhances the elegance of the design. The kickstand can be tucked away when it is not being used, making the display disappear.

UPERFECT UMax 24: Hands-On Experience

Setting Up My Spare Workspace

In previous reviews, I discussed my temporary setup in the second floor of my house. The Tribesigns Mobile Standing Desk once had a fantastic Dell Pro32 monitor. This desk was supposed to be removed after I completed my review of that monitor. The desk felt too large or small for the job I had in mind. In general, I did not need a second workspace. However, when I remembered that I had also been testing the UPERFECT 24" monitor, I thought it was a great addition.

Kickstand and Monitor Arm Testing

The kickstand has been holding the monitor up on a number of different setups. This is my favourite setup of this workstation. MSI's new MAG MT201D is one of the monitor arms I tried. BenQ BSH01 monitor arm and others I cannot remember were also tested. These all worked great, and provided a variety of styles for the space. Since I'm going for an ultra minimalist set-up, driven by my minimalist monitor, I decided to use the built-in kickstand of the display to support it.

This display has worked well as a monitor to my MacBook Pro. The display is crisp and fluid, and I love that I can use it with an iPad Mini, another iPad or laptop. I could even connect a Nintendo Switch to this device.

With a USB-C to monitor cable, I can connect my laptop and see the entire screen. We can work quickly and easily if I run my monitor from the laptop battery. To charge my phone while I was doing it, I attached a USB-C cable to the second port. I then connected this line to the card slot.

Connecting Devices and Daily Use

This monitor is great so far for emailing, browsing the web, managing projects, doing research and writing. Although there's a part that wishes it was higher, I find that the 2K is just as good as what I expected. It just feels right. It feels as if it were in 4K.

It is a great experience to use this monitor at a locati0n where it will be installed. It was a pleasure to set one up at a semi permanent locati0n. This is one of the biggest portable monitors available, and it's perfect for this type of setup.

Taking It to Client Visits

This monitor has also allowed me to visit one of my clients a few times. It's a little awkward to carry it around in my second bag, but it is great when I pull it out.

UPERFECT UMax 24: Final Verdict

The UMax 24 was designed to achieve the impossible: create a large portable display, but also one that works well enough for a semi permanent or permanent installation.

This portable monitor will be perfect for anyone who wants a good monitor but is on the go, has a limited budget, works from any location, needs to save space, or just enjoys fun technology.
